Huhtamaki Fiber Technology
Jobid=A.0.049
You’ve been working at Huhtamaki Fiber Technology for a year now – and what a year. You look back on challenging projects involving the development of sustainable packaging. In each project, you work from an innovative team that continuously strives to improve. That suits you, because as a technician, you are always well aware of new developments. You think of brainstorming sessions, drawings and prototype testing. And of course, you were there when the production started. You proudly saw how everyone looked at the machine line expectantly and then reacted enthusiastically. Thousands of sustainable packaging now roll off ‘your’ production lines every day. This is what you do it for: you have an impact and, together with your colleagues, you make the world a little more beautiful and more sustainable. You offer solutions that matter and go around the world. Are you already imagining this?
Who are we?
We are Huhtamaki Fiber Technology, the international R&D center and machine line developer of the major packaging company Huhtamaki. We passionately develop machine lines that make it possible to produce sustainable packaging for, among others, the food industry. We have located a modern test center, a pilot plant and various other departments under one roof. We are all about innovation, sustainable innovation! Not only because our customers and end users from the global retail market ask for it every day, but also because we ourselves strive for a world with sustainable packaging materials.
What does the job include?
As a Development Engineer, you are an important link within our company. You are closely involved in developing new packaging and the associated mold, but also in improving our current packaging. Packaging made from recycled and biodegradable molded fiber, or shaped cardboard.
You always have your ears and eyes open, pick up signals immediately and then start your first drawings enthusiastically. Of course, you will also be involved in research. You analyze and assess the entire process, advise and record this in reports and technical drawings. You have a lot of contact with colleagues from different departments; you want to know what’s going on and what everyone is up to.
Why are you going to do this?
You want to be busy with the future, a sustainable future. You are critical and always see room for innovations and/or improvements. Within our organization, we have a high-tech R&D center, so you are close to technology. Together with your colleagues, you will work in project teams on the most beautiful developments and sustainable solutions within the packaging industry. You feel the responsibility to guide projects to a successful conclusion. After all, you know very well that a satisfied customer will come back.
What activities can you expect during a working day
In the morning, you have a review scheduled with the project team. During this meeting, you will discuss the bottlenecks of an ongoing project and proactively propose innovative solutions. Next, you will work on the design specification of packaging for a customer. You elaborate on this and briefly discuss the result with your team. After lunch, you’ll work on a design that you received feedback on yesterday. You make a number of changes and then make a 3D print of the physical model. Then you will work on the drawings for the prototype of a mold. Afterwards, you will go to the test center to check the machine and prepare for your appointment tomorrow.
The job requirements:
• You have completed a technical higher professional education, preferably in the field of mechanical engineering.
• It is an advantage that you have several years of work experience developing packaging or moulds. But if you have the right education and are driven, we are certainly willing to further train you.
• You have an eye for detail, a strong technical insight and are creative.
